California CDL Driver Hiring Support

A clearer process for hiring CDL drivers in California.

Class A and Class B driver hiring support, from job requirements and interviews to drug-testing coordination, Clearinghouse steps and onboarding records.

In brief

Hiring a commercial driver involves more than checking a license. CHRA helps California employers manage and run the hiring workflow, from candidate follow-up to screening coordination and onboarding. We carry out the agreed administrative steps with your authorization, using a process matched to the vehicle, job and operation.

01

Define the role before recruiting

We help turn daily responsibilities into a clear job description and hiring checklist. That includes identifying the license class, endorsements, vehicle restrictions and experience relevant to the work, then flagging questions for your transportation compliance specialist.

  • Class A and Class B driver roles and job-related requirements
  • Vehicle and route information, including interstate or California-only work
  • Structured interview questions and consistent candidate evaluation
  • English/Spanish communication during hiring and onboarding
02

Manage the steps before a driver starts

CHRA can run the agreed pre-employment workflow with your authorized team and qualified providers: collect documents and consents, initiate permitted screening and employer requests, schedule testing, follow up on completion and maintain the hiring record. We track what remains outstanding before the employer authorizes safety-sensitive work.

  • Schedule authorized DOT drug tests with a qualified provider and track verified-result status when the role is covered
  • Manage FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse query steps and driver-consent follow-up within authorized account roles
  • License, endorsement, driving-record and medical-qualification documentation tracking
  • Insurer coordination and vehicle-specific qualification and authorized-vehicle record tracking
  • Build and maintain driver qualification records and carry out permitted prior-employer follow-up
  • California DMV Employer Pull Notice and CHP/BIT-related administrative coordination where applicable
  • Form I-9 workflow and document tracking, with employee document choice respected
  • Consistent, job-related English-language proficiency assessment coordination for covered driving roles

Experience with real driver-hiring workflows

CHRA has experience supporting CDL Class A and Class B driver hiring, including roles requiring endorsements and coordination involving CHP, FMCSA and the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse. We apply that practical experience to manage the authorized hiring workflow for your operation, from document collection and screening coordination to driver records and onboarding.

04

Carry the process into onboarding

A completed hire is the beginning of ongoing recordkeeping. We can help organize onboarding responsibilities, driver policy acknowledgments, document expiration tracking and follow-up calendars for your designated staff and providers.

  • A role-specific hiring and onboarding checklist
  • An action log showing missing documents and responsible contacts
  • A clear handoff to the employer’s ongoing testing and driver-monitoring programs
05

Keep regulated work with the right professionals

CHRA manages and carries out authorized hiring and administrative tasks. We do not administer DOT drug or alcohol tests, provide medical examinations, act as a Medical Review Officer or certify regulatory compliance. Your employer representatives retain hiring decisions and responsibility for qualifying drivers; qualified testing providers, medical examiners and transportation or legal specialists perform their respective functions. Any system access or representation must be properly authorized.
